Venetian Mask Colombina con media mariposa y palo
La antigua máscara de la Colombina, que cubre solo la parte de los ojos, está enriquecida con un mango y aplicaciones de metal que representan las alas de una mariposa rodeada de diamante de imitación aplicado expertamente uno a uno por manos expertas. Gracias a la posibilidad de tener la mano izquierda rigorosamente aplicada (con la mano derecha podía tomar comida y vasos, muy de moda para la época) era usada por las nobles venecianas para participar en fastuosas fiestas sin ser reconocidas aumentando así el misterio y el encanto.

Today we received another “treasure” from LA GIOIA. This was a mask that I bought for my wife as an early Valentines Day gift; an ancient mask of the Colombina. Each time I look at these masks in our home it brings me back to the walks from San Marco, thru Castello to the Rialto and beyond. I urge those that may visit Venice to wall down Salizada S. Lio and seek out LA GIOIA. For these masks will forever hold memories from your visits. Along the way you will find wonderful café’s, restaurants and bacari – enjoy the Cicchetti! And remember to really experience Venice you must walk until you get lost, though you truly can never get lost, however make sure you find your way to LA GIOIA and experience these treasures.
