Venetian Mask Colombina con mezza Farfalla e Bastoncino
L’antica maschera della Colombina, che copre solo la parte degli occhi, è arricchita da un bastoncino e da applicazioni in metallo dorato che rappresentano un’ala di farfalla adornata da stass sapientemente applicati uno per uno da mani esperte.
Questa maschera veniva utilizzata dalle nobildonne veneziane per partecipare a feste sontuose senza essere riconosciute, aumentando così il loro mistero ed il loro fascino.

Today we received another “treasure” from LA GIOIA. This was a mask that I bought for my wife as an early Valentines Day gift; an ancient mask of the Colombina. Each time I look at these masks in our home it brings me back to the walks from San Marco, thru Castello to the Rialto and beyond. I urge those that may visit Venice to wall down Salizada S. Lio and seek out LA GIOIA. For these masks will forever hold memories from your visits. Along the way you will find wonderful café’s, restaurants and bacari – enjoy the Cicchetti! And remember to really experience Venice you must walk until you get lost, though you truly can never get lost, however make sure you find your way to LA GIOIA and experience these treasures.
